How big is the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

People keep asking the same size questions: Fold 8 or Ultra for pockets? Will last year’s case fit? How short is the “wide” Fold when closed? See the numbers together.

Why Fold 8 size is easy to misread

This year Samsung sells two book-style foldables with similar names. Fold 8 is shorter and wider—reviewers often nickname it the “wide” or “passport” Fold. Ultra stays tall and narrow, closer to Fold 7. It is not like S26 vs S26 Ultra, where Ultra is simply bigger.

Online debates are usually simpler: Will it stick out of a jeans pocket? Is the cover screen enough for a day? Will last year’s case still fit?

What people compare most

Here’s what stands out when the numbers sit next to each other:

  • Fold 8 vs Ultra: Different shapes. Folded Fold 8 is 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm (201 g); Ultra is 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm (215 g). Cases are not shared.
  • Fold 8 folded vs open: Height stays 123.9 mm. Width jumps from 81.9 to 161.4 mm; thickness drops from 9.7 to 4.5 mm.
  • Ultra vs Fold 7: Almost the same footprint. Both 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm folded; open Ultra is 4.1 mm thin, Fold 7 is 4.2 mm. Weight stays 215 g.
  • Cover screens (daily use): Ultra’s cover is about 6.5″ and taller—closer to a normal phone while closed. Fold 8’s cover is about 5.5″ but wider, matching its shorter body.

Which one fits your day—by size

Skip camera and price for a moment. If size and carry are what you’re stuck on:

  • Lean Fold 8 if: You want a shorter closed phone that sits lower in front pockets, a lighter feel (201 g), and a wider open screen for video, reading, or two apps side by side.
  • Lean Ultra if: You live on the cover screen, prefer a taller-narrower closed phone like Fold 7, want easier one-hand reach (72.8 mm wide), and a slightly thinner fold (8.9 mm).

Pockets, bags, and closed-phone feel

Typical front jeans pockets are roughly 150–165 mm tall. Fold 8 at 123.9 mm usually clears that with room to spare. Ultra at 158.4 mm sits near the top—some people notice a bit sticking out.

Width flips the trade-off: Fold 8 is wider closed (81.9 mm), so tight skinny pockets can feel snug. Ultra (72.8 mm) slides more like a regular flagship. Compare Ultra next to S26 Ultra above if you’re coming from a slab phone.
